Art Order: Variations on a theme

My take on different types of armor for the Deva - forArtorder's Concept Tuesday challenge.

For this, I looked at persian and japanese armor (as they described), and decided to add a touch of Indian, Balinese/Indonesian influences as well.
Not as finished as I hoped and didn't pay attention to the values till later, but this just means I'll have to paint and research faster.

Thumbnail sketches can be found here:

If you like the piece, please vote for me at Artorder's Concept Tuesday, and help me achieve 15 minutes of interweb fame! (don't forget to leave your name, as they're no longer taking anonymous votes)

Crits and comments are always appreciated, anything I can do improve my indentured servitude to that nameless otherworldly beast called Art! :)

  1. Hey girl! At work now, so no time to go into a detailed critique- but these are some excellent starts. I love your color choices, especially on the middle one and the great wing variation. Hopefully I will write more tonight- good luck!

  2. A pretty cool piece that you have here. I really like the colors and the overall design you have to each outfit. I also like the textile designs you have going on in the middle one.

The first thing that popped out at me though was the overall softness to the forms. I think spending some time to sharpen up the edges and to really define all of the shapes will really make the characters pop out more. Try not to forget about the overall silhouette, because ultimately that is the first thing we see.
